God Hates Everyone, According to Man

This blog would be about one of the subject you’re not supposed to talk about with others, religion.

I would argue that if you don’t talk about such things, you ain’t gonna learn nuthin!

Right off the bat, I’m not a religious person. But I am a spiritual person. The reason I’m not a fan of organized religion is because of people like the Phelps clan. They run the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka Kansas.

Now these people hate homosexuals. When I say “hate” I mean really, really, REALLY hate homosexuals. If they could set all the homosexuals on fire or rid them from this planet via rocket ship, they would happily do so. Since they can’t do that, they have decided to protest anywhere and everywhere they can so they can get the fact out that homosexuals are the cause of everything bad in the world.

No, I’m not making this up. Well, the part about the rocket ship is far-fetched, but if do-able, ya damn skippy they’d throw all their money and effort into accomplishing it. But the part about these people protesting that homosexuals are the cause of all the evils of the world is true.

Being a free society, they have a *sigh* right to vocalize their beliefs, no matter how ignorant and ridiculous it may sound to free-thinking people such as ourselves. Where they do it though is just… repugnant. I don’t use the word “repugnant” often, but is seems to fit here.

Their favorite choice of location for their protests, at the funerals of soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Yup, that’s right. When a soldier dies and is brought home to be laid to rest and allow the family time to mourn with others, they have to put up with these so-called “people” waving signs that say “God Hates Fags” (regardless if the soldier was gay or not) and, my personal favorite, “Thank God for Dead Soldiers”.

Their reason for all this is, as I stated above, that homosexuals are to blame for all the world’s ills. Since America has become more accepting of  homosexuals, America now needs to be punished. Having soldiers killed by IEDs is Gods way of punishing America.

Ah, isn’t religion grand!

Now I know better. I know not all religious people think like this, thank God. Even the Christian church who isn’t fond of homosexuals doesn’t go so far as to waves signs and be a bunch of jackasses. Hell, when the Phelps clan tried to go to the United Kingdom, the leaders of various churches there sided with a government when they specifically excluded prominent members of the Westboro Baptist Church from entering the country. In fact, the alliance of six church groups stated…

“We do not share (Westboro’s) hatred of Lesbian and gay people. We believe that God loves all, irrespective of sexual orientation…”

Now that’s  what I’m talking about!

“God loves all.” That’s what I think of when I think of god, regardless of religion.

I see religion as a place for people to gather to support each other, to find comfort in like-minded people, to better themselves and others around them and to go out into the world with a better appreciation for life than they might have had before. To me, that’s what religion should do.

Sadly, everyone screws up the idea, twisting it for their own purposes. I’m not talking about changes to address progressive thinking. I’m talking about the origin of the basics of a religion. Whatever the driving force or idea behind the beginning of a religious system, it has been flawed and tainted by the generations of humans that changed things, re-wrote the basics that everything was based on. Whatever the original belief was isn’t the same. It has been splintered, fractured into various factions who battle with each other and look upon different religions as threats.

I often wonder what Jesus would think if he came back to see what has been done in his and his father’s name. I bet he’d be pissed. Seeing how much money the church rakes in and how much hate is spewed by his supposed followers, he’d probably start his own church which would be considered kooky and flaky and grouped with Mormons and Scientologists.

Any people from any religious group who take their belief system and turn it into a way to hurt or kill others has stepped away from the path that was laid before them by their teachings, whether it be from Jesus, Muhammad, Buddha, or whoever.

I guess God doesn’t hate everyone. Man hates man and uses God as a reason to hate.

Guess those people missed the point.
