This week, Barack Obama, President of the United States, and, as some would say, the grand poo-ba of the free world (except Canada), came out of the political closet and sided with the whole same-sex marriage thing.

As the news hounds continually declared, he’s the first president to endorse the right of gay people to be married and be miserable like the rest of those that are just itching to get divorced.

Of course, those with high morals and solid Christian values condemned the revelation. These are the same people who consider homosexuality akin to pedophilia, yet don’t say much when the priest plays penis hockey with the choir boys!

Ok, enough inflammatory BS, let’s get to the point quick on this one…

The Christians seem to have it in for homosexuals. Sadly, they aren’t the only ones. From what I’ve read, his holiness, the Dalai Lama isn’t fond of homosexuals. The only difference between the two is that in Buddhism, each individual seeks enlightenment using the Buddha’s teachings as a guideline. Christians are a little more strict. If you don’t follow what’s in the Bible, more or less, you’re going to hell. Therefore, The Dalai Lama’s belief doesn’t reflect on others who follow the teaching of Buddha, where as if you are a good, God-fearing Christian, then accepting or being someone who is gay, is a guaranteed one-way trip to the hot place.

My Mom, a good, spiritual, Christian woman sees things differently. She is found of a passage about what God said about his home having many doors. That isn’t the exact quote, but the gist of it is, according to my Mom, is that there are many ways to worship, and that through these other doors, others worship him differently, perhaps under different names.

I’m sure there might be some who will read this and laugh, scoff or think my Mom and I are clueless about Christianity. But maybe that’s the way God wants people to worship. I’m sure he’d rather people worship his word and beliefs in  way and not by what a few close-minded people think.

Or, think of it this way. That Westboro Church of Hatred and Dumbassery that protests the funerals of dead soldiers, blaming their deaths on the lax beliefs towards homosexuality. I’m sure many church-going folks are just as disgusted by that spectacle of intolerance and cruelty as the rest of us, even if they aren’t fond of homosexuals.

I guess the point I’m trying to make is homosexuals aren’t out to destroy Christian values. They just want to live their lives like everyone else. To deny them the rights and freedom that everyone in first world countries take for granted is akin to any racism or discrimination that others have had to deal with, including Christians themselves back in the days of Rome where they were Lion chow.

So suck it up, churchy!

You keep your nose in the Bible and only come for air at a Billy Graham cult gathering, while the rest of the world will keep on a rollin’ into the future and leave your old testament-ass in the past.
